I'm not sure what Wolgang has directed before, but I dont think this is his thing. I can see now why KOH may have had some trouble due to this, and a few other 'sword and sandal' movies that don't even come close to the brilliance of Ridley Scott.
Just my two cents.
Actually, 7 years ago I would have said no one could touch Ridley scott for the level of detail and his ability to transport you to complete worlds, whether they be historical KOH/Gladiator, or fantastical Alien/Bladerunner. Ridley Scotts 'unique' ability to do this was my main reason for thinking that no one would ever be able to translate a certain book to the screen....

..Fortunatley They did, only Peter Jackson's LOTR, has matched Ridley Scotts ability to transport the audience to another place while sitting in a cinema.

To compare Ridley Scott to Wolfgang Petersen is like comparing Michelangelo to the paintings of a pre-schooler.... they aint even in the same class.

I've never seen LOTR, and dont ever plan too-just doesnt interest me, but I'm sure It would not be as successful as it is if it was directed by someone like Peterson. I'll take your word that Jackson is a good director.
